Celebrating Pride Month: Empowering and Supporting LGBTQ+ Older Adults

LGBTQ+ older adults are a diverse and widespread population living in every part of the country, including King County. It was estimated that by 2030, there will be approximately 7 million LGBTQ+ individuals in the U.S. who are 50 and older*. Despite their growing numbers, many face increased isolation, less financial security, and consistent discrimination in workplaces, medical facilities, and even from their families, often receiving little to no support.

LGBTQ+ elders are significantly less likely than other older adults to reach out to senior centers, meal programs, and other vital services and may even be reluctant to access medical care*. After decades of experiencing discrimination and harassment, many simply assume they will not be welcome in these environments.

This is why it is essential for nonprofits like Sound Generations to continue creating comprehensive support systems that encourage equity and inclusion for underserved populations.

Recently, Sound Generations participated in Pride in the Park and hosted educational sessions for our employees to foster a more inclusive environment.

Additionally, don’t miss our Pride Place Community Dining program, where you can enjoy a delicious hot meal and wonderful company.
