Caring for someone who is frail or has a disability is a demanding job. Respite services are designed to provide a break for caregivers.
Whether it’s for a few hours a week to run errands or a few weeks a year to take a much-needed vacation, respite care offers you the chance to reduce stress, and keep your life in balance.
Respite care can be provided at home by a friend, other family member, volunteer or paid service — or in a care setting, such as adult day program.
Our Caregiver advocates can will help identify a qualified professional to provide care in your home or an adult day service program in your community.
Our Caregiver Support Program also partners with Aging & Disability Services’ Respite Program which, in many cases, helps lessen the cost family’s pay for these services.
Adult Day Programs
Adult day care is a supervised daytime program providing personal care services appropriate for adults with medical or disabling conditions. Participants are given the opportunity to meet new people, participate in challenging activities, and enjoy daily life in comforting surroundings. Activities can range from arts and crafts, discussion groups and light exercise. Some programs provide skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services in addition to personal care services.
These programs provide caregivers with a much-deserved break, secure in the knowledge that family members are receiving excellent care.
