We have weathered many storms in our lifetime: the most recent being the wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has forced us to approach life very differently. In doing so, it has magnified the complexity of attaining assistance while unearthing challenges for people to stay connected to loved ones, resources, and healthcare.
At Sound Generations, we have seen this become glaringly prevalent in older adults’ ability to not only access a vaccination, but simply make a vaccination appointment. However, thanks to your generosity, we have been able to assist in the management of assistance in acquiring a vaccination appointment and use our senior centers as pop-up sites for vaccination. To date, our Shoreline Lake Forest Park Senior Center has provided over 300 vaccinations on site. Additionally, they have coordinated appointments for another 40-50 vaccinations, 95% home delivered in Bothell, Kenmore, Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. By utilizing telephone digital registration systems, the Shoreline Lake Forest Park Senior Center has been able to reach more minority groups and those with language barriers through this program.
The support of your general fund donations and the partnership of the Shoreline Fire Department and many NW vaccination teams have made this effort possible. A year ago, we couldn’t have fathomed we would be in the vaccination business. Seeing the difficulties older adults have faced trying to get appointments while securing reliable, safe transportation that doesn’t put them at further risk of exposure to the virus has not been easy. People often ask why non-profits prefer general donations and this is why. General fund dollars allow us to use your generosity in the most meaningful and impactful way to benefit the well-being of older adults amidst many emerging needs resulting from this pandemic.
We don’t know what is going to happen next, but with enough financial runway, our staff of dedicated and caring team members will find a way to expand our impact given the present needs. Thank you for entrusting us to make profound impact in the lives of our aging neighbors with your generous gifts.
