Michael Neguse, Health & Wellness 2017

Michael inspires others with the countless hours and energy that he puts into meeting the needs of underserved communities. As an East African immigrant himself, he supported the East African community with congregate meal services, eventually founding the East African Senior Center.

Michael’s inspiration knows no bounds. Michael speaks four different languages and uses his skills to educate immigrants and refugees of all ages about emergency preparedness, health, and more. He engages residents in his area by hosting community picnics and cultural celebrations. We featured some of these activities in a 2022 video looking at the history of Sound Generations.

The constant through all his work is his personal commitment. Every week, Michael gets food items himself and works with a team of volunteers to prepare daily meals. Michael has vigorous spirit, and he is a guiding light for younger generations who want to engage in healthy, positive aging.

In 2017, Michael received the Inspire Positive Aging Award for Health & Wellness.
