In 2024, Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) engaged Sound Generations and the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center to assess the landscape of mobile crisis response for older adults in Washington State. The Mobile Crisis Responders Resource Guide was developed from the research and information collected. It is intended to provide Mobile Crisis Responders with a high-level overview of unique considerations for working with older adults and resources to meet their needs.

Who is a Mobile Crisis Responder?
Although this guide may be useful to more people, it was developed to specifically meet the needs of Mobile Crisis Responders. Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) defines mobile crisis teams as “community-based interventions to individuals in need wherever they are”. The minimum requirement of a mobile crisis team:
- Includes a licensed and/or credentialed clinician capable of assessing the needs of individuals within the region of operation
- Responds where the person is at any hour of the day
- Connects individuals to long-term support as needed and coordinate transportation should the situation warrant transition to other locations
Mobile crisis response in Washington is primarily region-specific and operated by independent organizations.
