Whether you are a senior wanting to plan for end-of-life and make your own choices known or a loved one looking to support an elder who is losing the ability to make their own decisions, our attorney volunteers and program staff are here to provide clarity and confidence about options to support and protect older adults.
Access to Legal Resources
Many older adults and their loved ones face complications and uncertainty when it comes to concerns about end-of-life medical and financial decision-making, long-term care, powers of attorney, estate planning, probate, and guardianship. Through our program, you can access legal aid and free advice for seniors and their caregivers designed to help you understand your options so you can move forward effectively.

Senior Rights Assistance is an elder law resource program. We provide informational materials and legal guidance about end-of-life, estate planning, and vulnerable adult concerns. We want to help older adults and their families access resources, protect their rights, and make informed decisions.
We provide free consultations with attorney volunteers to ask questions and get assistance with estate planning, end-of-life planning, long-term care, powers of attorney, medical directives, guardianship, conservatorship, probate, small estates, and vulnerable adult concerns. All our attorney volunteers specialize in elder law and estate planning.
Our attorney volunteers cannot represent Senior Rights Assistance clients in court or prepare court paperwork. Staff can direct you to court forms and resources for you to review ahead of your appointment, and attorney volunteers can answer questions about those materials or give feedback on what you have attempted to complete. The King County Superior Court also has support resources for guardianship and conservatorship petitions – Senior Rights Assistance staff can talk with you about those options.
We can only offer one-time consults for complex disputes and litigation related to probate, estates, trusts, and guardianship/conservatorships. These are complicated legal proceedings that need specialized representation from attorneys familiar with state laws and local court rules. It is not responsible legal advice to suggest that non-attorneys can successfully represent themselves in these matters with only the support of a legal clinic. Our attorney volunteers can meet with you for a one-time consult to discuss your possible options for moving forward and talk to you about how to find private attorneys who are experienced with your issue.
While we cannot give you legal advice for issues that our program does not work on, our staff are familiar with many other local legal aid programs and are happy to try to connect you with resources for advice about other legal situations. We recommend emailing our staff at sra@soundgenerations.org to explain what you are looking for and request information about referrals to other programs.
If you are a King County resident dealing with an elder law issue elsewhere in Washington, or if you live in another county or state and need advice about a situation taking place in King County, we can potentially assist you. If no one in your situation lives in King County or if you need advice about something happening in a different state, please email our staff at sra@soundgenerations.org to get information about legal aid in other areas.
