For the past eight years, five days a week, Sidney “Sid” arrived at Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center at 6 AM sharp to assist in the Community Dining kitchen. He always has a smile, even for an impatient chef.
No task is too small for Sidney, who often sets up tables and chairs by himself without complaint. On special event days, he lays out decorations and centerpieces too.
“At home, I would just feel sorry for myself. But here, I have a job, and a cook to annoy.” – Sidney Rouse

Even though he was a Boeing test engineer and decorated WWI veteran, he takes great pride in his kitchen duties. As he gets older, Sidney continues to serve with boundless joy. He never seeks compliments or thank you’s, and he always credits the team for a successful meal.
In 2019, Sidney received the Inspire Positive Aging Award for Community Service.
