Become an Advocacy Volunteer

Why This Role Matters
Your advocacy helps support and pass policies and secure funding that advance independence, well-being, and quality of life for aging adults and adults with disabilities across King County.
Who We’re Looking For – You’re a great fit if you:
- Communicate clearly and compassionately in public speaking settings
- Are comfortable representing Sound Generations and sharing your story as it relates to policy or funding
- Can commit to attending advocacy events as available
No prior experience is required — we’ll provide orientation and support to help you feel confident.
Time Commitment
- For local advocacy, budget season is in full swing in the fall. Advocacy volunteers can attend as many committee/council meetings — from a few hours per month to more frequent participation.
- For state advocacy, legislative session varies between a short session on even years (60 days), and a long session (100 days) on odd years. Lobby Day is one full day in Olympia; opportunities to testify (remotely or in-person) arise throughout session.
- Federal advocacy opportunities arise throughout the year and vary in nature from small meetings with congressional staff to promoting federal-level bills and funding in a variety of ways. Even one hour a month spent on these efforts makes a big difference!
