The Elder Education Institute (EEI) at Sound Generations is a groundbreaking educational program that provides professional-level, CEU-granting training to licensed mental health professionals and other service providers who work with the unique concerns of older adults.
As we age, our mental health may be impacted by health factors related to aging, significant life changes and loss, and the erosive effects of marginalization due to ageism. With the miracle of longevity many have attained through medical and preventive health-related advances, the U.S. now has an enormous older adult population which will continue to increase. By 2030, adults 65 and up will make up 20% of the U.S. population. Despite the ever-growing need, there is a deficit of clinicians who are trained to skillfully support and guide older adults to live their lives with the dignity and grace they deserve.
Unlike any other program in the U.S., EEI offers a series of regularly scheduled, in-depth trainings curated to give clinicians and service providers both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to apply to their work with their older clients.
Sound Generations and the Elder Education Institute are passionate about creating educational pathways to care for our elders. Our new Decisional Capacity Assessment Professional Training Program is the first and only program of its kind in the U.S. and is drawing professionals from across the country. Very few clinicians and service providers in the U.S. can perform skilled evaluations to determine someone’s decision-making capacity, leaving many older adults open to exploitation and unsafe living conditions. Our pioneering program aims to fill this important gap in elder care and to protect older adults so they can age with dignity. We are committed to providing excellent education and guidance for generations to come.
