November is National Caregivers Month

This month, we focus more of our attention and energy on recognizing and supporting family caregivers. The National Council on Aging (NCOA) reminds us that family members are the primary source of assistance for older adults and people with disabilities in the U.S.

Providing assistance to loved ones can be rewarding, but the reality is that family members often give care while juggling competing responsibilities and facing significant demands on their time, energy, and well-being. This takes an emotional, physical, and financial toll.

It’s likely that someone in your family will be caring for an aging relative—or will, themselves, need extra assistance as they grow older. Family and community relationships are the source of so much joy, meaning, and comfort. So take time in November to acknowledge, honor, and check in with a family caregiver. They will get a boost from your thoughtful contact and your gestures of support.
